Mini lesson

A useful Maths Advanced idea

Before differentiating, say what the derivative represents. In motion, it may be velocity. In optimisation, it helps locate turning points. In graphing, it shows increasing and decreasing intervals.

Students practise this idea first with a small example, then with a question closer to HSC difficulty. The aim is to make the method repeatable.
